Reality TV versus the Election

To my readers’ I have not been watching reality shows as frequently as I had a couple weeks ago. This could be due to all the media on the election. Lately, politics has been a huge REALITY TV SHOW! From the news on John McCain’s past love affair and Hilary/Bill’s life.

One of my college courses is spent strictly on Politics and is titled Leadership. At times it can be extremely controversial because the class is pretty much split evenly into Republicans vs. Democrats. This 300 level course requires a paper in which we must declare who we will vote for in November. We all wrote the paper and then the Instructor announced to the entire class who we all chose. I found this to be extremely inappropriate — not that it matters to me on who people or my friends’ are voting for, but some people look at you differently if they know you are voting for John McCain versus Hilary Clinton/Obama or vice versa.

Every Tuesday and Thursday I walk into class and the Instructor gives me the impression that he wants to see controversy among his students. At times people are arguing, rolling eyes, sighing, mumbling under their breath, etc. And when you try and stay out of conversation the Instructor wants to hear your opinion. It’s one thing to declare who you want to see as President of the United States, but having to listen to people bash who you believe will have the courage take office is another.

Yesterday was Hilary’s big Tuesday. She won Texas and Ohio. My personal opinion is if Hilary goes up against McCain she will lose, but if Obama goes up against McCain he will win. This election is so very overwhelming with an African American, women, and POW all running for the same position. Every Leadership class I go to the same person says the same comeback to defend Obama, he says, “at least there won’t be a war forever.” Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, the one thing I think is whether a democrat is in office and does take the troops out will not make everything all “better.” To me it sounds like we would give-up portraying that the U.S. is weak and can’t finish.

I’m proud of the troops and it saddens me that when I flip on the news it always shows something terrible (i.e. deaths). In reality that does happen, but there is a lot of good being done.

So…the election has been on my to-do list to watch the past couple of weeks, which apparently is similar to Reality TV.

Let me know what you think…I would love to know!
