Reality TV and Celebrities

Did anyone ever notice that “normal” people who go on reality TV end up becoming famous? This is evident in the popular reality TV show, American Idol. American Idol contestants good singers and even bad singers get their name out there and end up becoming somewhat of a celebrity. Popular American Idol “celebrities” are Carrie Underwood who currently is having a Carnival Tour, which might I add was fantastic! Others are: Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, & Melinda Doolittle.

This season American Idol has had its ups and downs. My family has gotten really into watching it every week. My sister is pulling for David Cook and my parents are fans of the young, David Archuleta. I have caught some episodes once in a while and became a fan of David Archuleta. On my way into work in the morning I always hear gossip regarding, David Archuleta. From what it sounds like his dad is a psycho. From what the radio said it sounded like his father got him to add a line to one of his songs that he performed and now his father isn’t allowed backstage?

This season the two popular contestants who happen to be the final two have never been in the bottom two or three. My prediction is that either one would make a great American Idol because they both will become celebrities next year at this time.

Another show that gained popularity for a young woman was, Flavor of Love. Tiffany a.k.a New York not only became a celebrity, but had her own show and is currently pursuing a career as an actress. The Hills that is featured on MTV has numerous celebrities that came from it, Lauren Conrad…etc.

So for the people that say reality TV is pointless and stupid reality TV gives normal people the chance to become people they never thought they would. When I talk to people who think reality TV is a waste of time I compare it to professional sports. Professional sports is somewhat a reality show. The players are so dramatic when they fouled or slam dunk. They can do practically what they please because of the thousands and millions they are making.

I was watching some of the Lakers vs. Jazz game last night and the way Kobe acts is sometimes over the top. Ever since the incident which I won’t be discussing that was in the public eye about his relationship with his wife and the woman from the hotel I think he lost a lot of fans. Well at least me, but that doesn’t stop the thousands he still has. Anyways…this is a reality TV blog not a sports blog - if you want to find out more about sports go here
