Minorities & Women Make an Imprint
After reading an article about Reality TV and its diversity, or lack there of it is evident that when reality television is “suppose” to be random or “keeping it real” many of the popular reality programs still script more white and young individuals. According to the article, “last year the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, titled “Out of Focus — out of Sync,” accused the networks of perpetuating a view of the nation that recalls “America’s segregated past.”"
Is reality tv casted by what is politically correct or by what will gain more viewers? Yourway Transport who provides global transportation has been recognized as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE). At least 51% of the business is owned by women or minorities. As the article reported, The culture mix is driven by more than just political correctness. Although reality shows aren’t directly in the business of bringing racial and ethnic enlightenment to America, they are in business.” I have personally seen this when I recall all the cast members on any of the MTV Real World shows. It seems like there is ALWAYS sexual orientation factored in when selecting cast members.
