It was a pretty mild season finale last night on Nip/Tuck. The show started off with the consultation for the feature surgery. It was with a couple of “vampires”. The girl wanted to get her neck repaired because her boyfriend took things a little too far and hit her artery. They had gone to the emergency room, but they did a poor job of closing up the wound, hence their trip to McNamara/Troy. They realize that their bloodlust may be too dangerous and want to wean themselves off of the blood. After the surgery, Christian walks in on them at night, and they raided the McNamara/Troy blood supply. Instead of calling the cops, Christian just gives them a bag “for the road” and kicks them out.

Kimber gets dumped by Ram Peters and is out on her own. She stops by to drop the kid off with Matt for a couple of weeks, and finds out that Christian is getting married to Liz. She flips out and decides she still loves Christian and that he loves her. Kimber goes to confront Liz and tells her that Christian still fantasizes about her and really loves her, then calls Liz “Butch”. Liz tells her to stay away from her and Christian or she’s going to find out how “butch” she can get.

Christian tells everyone that he has found out how to live forever, and wants them to have him cryogenically frozen so that he can be brought back when they have a cure. Everyone laughs at the idea, but Christian is dead serious. Sean goes with him to check the place out, and it kind of looks like a storage unit, not a nice place at all. It was going to cost Christian something like two or three hundred thousand dollars up front, plus five thousand a month. He was ok with that until he found out he was going to have to share a chamber with another body. Christian asks what happens if they cure the other guys disease first and they have to open it up, to which they reply, “I’m sure we’ll figure something out.” That was the deal breaker and Sean and Christian walk out. Christian then breaks down, knowing that was his one hope of cheating death.

The crazy anesthesiologist is just that, crazy. Apparently she moonlights as another person in Las Vegas, still an anesthesiologist though, and she sleeps with the surgeon of that practice as well. She ends up killing that surgeon with nitrous oxide, as she tells him it helps heighten the orgasm during sex, and she uses it herself, though a “safe” amount I guess. She purposesly overdoses him. To make matters worse, she gets Sean interested in nitrous oxide as well, and his character actually ends the show going into the surgery room and trying it out himself. Will he become hooked on it? Is she planning on killing him as well?

Christian and Liz do get married, and Kimber shows up and it looks like she is actually going to interrupt the wedding, but instead it appears she is about to cry and then walks out. Liz and Christian finish their vows and all is well. They then go home and start packing for their honeymoon when Christian gets a phone call from his doctor. He explains that there was some kind of mix up with another patient and that his cancer is actually in remission. Christian is obviously shocked and maybe a little terrified. Sure he wanted to marry Liz when he only had 6 months to live, but does he want to spend what could be 50 more years with her?

So, just to sum it up, Sean is dating what appears to be some kind of nitrous oxide killer, Christian isn’t going to die, but is married to Liz, Kimber has been kicked out and is on her own and apparently wants to be with Christian again, though that could have just been because she wanted the money when he died.

What are your thoughts on the season finale?

The episode starts off with Liz not being able to fit into her mother’s wedding dress, so she decides to get breast reduction in order to fit. After Liz’s surgery, Christian gives her a new dress anyway, and she loves it, her mother however, would rather her wear the dress that has been handed down.

At her wedding shower, Liz has all of her friends over, and is having a good time. Her mother is there as well, with a very unapproving look on her face. Liz breaks down and cries, and tells them all that Christian is dying. Her mother says something along the lines of “So that is why he’s with you”. LIz snaps and has it out with her mom, telling her how she has always made her feel like nothing, and then tells her to get out and not to come to the wedding.

Christian tells Sean that Liz’s surgery was his last, and he wants to find his replacement.Christian finds a replacement, but he seems like he is really into interior design, more specifcally, furniture.Sean takes the possible replacement to Christian’s favorite strip club, to scout out for bachelor party. Sean has a hard time adjusting to the idea of Christian not being around, and isn’t sure if he’s ready to think about a replacement. It turns out that the new guy, really is into furniture, as Christian and Sean walk in on him having sex with the couch in his office. He explains that he has a condition in which he has a sexual attraction to physical objects, such as well made furniture. Christian then fires the guy.

The feature surgery of the episode was a man wanting his wife to get a lot of surgery to look better. Not because he wants it, but because he has cancer and wants her to be able to find another man when he dies. He thought she would be set financially by the time he died, however he is dying sooner than expected, so he wants her to find someone who can take care of her.

He picks his butcher to be his wife’s next husband, for financial reasons, but he’s really old and she doesn’t like him. He comes back later with a younger better looking guy and she’s on board.

The episode ends with the crazy anesthesiologist (who is now possibly splitting the job with Liz) comforting Sean, as he was watching an old video of him, Christian and Julia on the computer.

For those of you who missed Nip/Tuck last night, it was quite the episode. I’ll start with the less interesting part, and something that has just annoyed me about Dr. Sean McNamara all along. His character is great when interacting with his family or with Christian Troy, but when he gets around a female, he turns into an absolute moron, and it irritates me.

This new anesthesiologist that replaced Liz is a nutjob, but of course Sean goes along with whatever she wants just to please her. Her character is turned off by any kind of responsiblity on Sean’s part, and so he acts like a child to make her happy. Her games last night got him to have sex with her in an open house that she claimed was hers, and got him to go to the desert and take some type of drug that caused him to have flashbacks the next day while he was doing a surgery. Luckily, that made him snap out of it, and I think he finally told her that’s not who he is. So let’s hope he can stay normal this time.

As far as surgeries, the feature surgery of the show this time was something I had never seen before. It was a man with some kind of condition where these warts just grew out of control. I am not exaggerating when I say that his arms and legs looked like tree limbs. Like all Nip/Tuck surgeries, this one was based on a true story about a “tree man”. Read about that here.

The biggest part of the show last night was the Dr. Christian Troy was given 6 months to a year to live, due to his breast cancer. He declined treatment which could give him a little longer. Also, he decided that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Liz, and asked her to marry him, giving her a $150,000 ring. So, Liz is back at McNamara/Troy and will be marrying Christian.

Nip/Tuck was the highest rated new series on American Basic Cable when it premiered on July 22, 2003. The show is a huge hit, and one of FX’s most popular shows to date, “The Shield” was pretty popular too. The fifth season that premiered on October 30, 2007 consisted of 22 episodes, which makes it the longest season of the show.

The season was cut a little short, but picked back up in January 2009 with the remaining 9 episodes that were missing. FX picked up another 19 episodes of the show and plan to split those into 2 parts, one airing in January 2010 and the other in January 2011, which will bring the hit series to an end with an even 100 episodes.

If you haven’t been watching this show, I highly recommend you get caught up and start watching. You’ve been missing out. Nip/Tuck was the inspiration for the plastic surgeon reality show “Dr. 90210″.
